Summer in the City!
Omg, Halifax is finally hot! I mean really hot, like 30 degrees can't touch the top of your roof with your feet hot! Woo hoo. It's supposed to last for 3 days which is also a small miracle - hot, hot, then torrential downpour - it's a maritime tradition I think. Ok enough about the weather, let's talk about me. The hot weather inspired me to go buy a new bikini. I conceded to the belly showing three years ago, and I won't go back! So, I walk into Frozen Ocean where I suddenly feel like they're going to yell out, NORM! everyone knew my name. I see the perfect bikini - green, yellow - very cool. The girl walks me to my room and says, by the way, just so you know, you gotta by the set, not just the top or bottom. I'm like, that's fine. So I put it on.. fall in love with it and say, "okay just grab the bottoms for me and I'll buy the set" . She brings the bottoms - they had a different price tag! I was like, Huh? She says, I told you you had to buy the set, and I was like yeah, but, they're priced seperately and I HAVE to buy both? Boo I say. 57 dollar top - 53 dollar bottoms that I'll wear UNDERNEATH my 80 dollar board shorts? No thanks. I'm vain but not crazy. So instead, I bought a ridiculously priced pair of "family shorts" and walked out. So I'm sitting in my adopted Halifax neighbourhood in my newly purchased family shorts, in a non-airconditioned coffee shop on the hottest day of the year. There's the perfect amount of eccentricity and colour that I'm venturing from the darkside and crossing the bridge for good. But, the search is on for a dwelling. To find a home in Halifax is a little bit of a game. Let's take for instance my favourite area, Agricola Street. I looked at a place on Cunard, beautiful little flat - hardwood and parking (which is a MUST in this congested city) the street is nice, and the people are cool. 4 blocks over, another great apartment, very unique.. in the hood! It's only 4 streets away and I wouldn't want to get out of my truck in the day time! It's like this all over the place. You can live on this part of the street, but don't go past that stop sign on your own.. this area is cool but one block up and your car is gone the next morning. It's not like a normal city where there's bad neighbourhoods in area - it's all over, scattered! Hence the game. well , the cream cheese is melting off my bagel that's been sitting here for the last 15 minutes, and the coffee temperature hasn't changed. I think that means it's time to go find a friend, and soak up the sun, while it's still free (shameless sheryl plug).
